Shelter of Hope Academy
Nestled in the heart of Kagan Village, Homa Bay County, Kenya, Shelter of Hope Academy is much more than a school—it's a beacon of hope and opportunity for children and families in the community. This institution, spearheaded by the dedicated leadership of Ishmael Ochieng and his team, is committed to transforming lives through education, development, and empowerment.
Shelter of Hope Academy operates with a clear mission: to nurture and educate children in a supportive and well-equipped environment. From its humble beginnings, the academy has grown into a vital resource for the community, offering quality education alongside critical development projects. Managed under the Brethren Assembly Fellowship, the academy ensures its programs align with both spiritual and social growth, providing children with the tools they need to mature and do well academically and beyond.
The academy has received grants and loans from iMission Gospel Partners to enhance its infrastructure and educational resources at their school near Homa Bay. Repayments are made from school fees collected and are monitored by the Kenya Brethren Mission Fund.
In September 2024, representatives from MMM South Africa conducted a site visit to assess the academy's progress and offer additional guidance. The visit revealed both the successes and challenges of the academy. Significant strides have been made in construction and staff training, but there is room for improvement. Despite these challenges, the dedication of the team—particularly Administrator Fredrick Okumu Odongo—stands as a testament to their commitment to excellence.
Shelter of Hope’s goals extend beyond immediate needs. A focus on water storage, sanitation facilities, and efficient project control will ensure the academy continues to thrive sustainably. Additionally, the academy is exploring ways to expand its impact through partnerships. By fostering relationships with local leaders and stakeholders, Shelter of Hope Academy is laying the groundwork for the development of generational mission capacity.
